ROTARY CLUB of Roatan is on the move
and so is the new fire truck for Roatan Airport.
We Need Your Help to get a Donated Airport Firetruck to Roatan, Honduras from Toronto, Ontario, Canada!
The Rotary Club of Roatan is the recipient of a Fire Truck through the Canadian Activists Passionate to Assist (CAPA), the Toronto Port Authority, and the Toronto Island Airport, which is specifically designed for airport service. The Club has decided to donate it to the Municipality of Roatan for use at the Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB) on Roatan, as there is a dire need to have a back-up truck for the existing aging and decrepit vehicles at the airport.
Over the past year, there have been many occasions where flights have been cancelled because of safety regulations as the airlines require a minimum of two operational fire trucks for the larger passenger planes on Roatan.
The cancellations have happened with no notice, and have left tourists and residents of Roatan often stranded on the island for periods of time, until the vehicles were repaired. Conversely, many tourists travelling to Honduras for a long-awaited vacation, have had their holiday dreams dashed by cancellations of their flights. They are left with the task of trying to re-book, settling for another last-minute destination, or trying to get a refund for their cancelled flight.
The impact of these cancellations has been devastating to the tourism industry, which is still trying to rebound after the Pandemic. A high proportion of the island’s population is reliant on the tourism industry in some aspect or another. When there are no tourists coming in, the tourism operators are unable to earn a living.
We need your help! We are making arrangements to transport the firetruck from Toronto to Miami and from Miami to Roatan. We are working together with the municipality to get all the appropriate paperwork done in order to receive this generous donation, and need to raise approximately $25,000 to get it here. If there are any funds left over, we will use them to help bring two fire trucks and two ambulances down from Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada. All four vehicles in Grand Prairie have been donated by the Rotary Club of Grand Prairie and the Grand Prairie Fire Department.
The Rotary Club of Roatan appreciates any support you can provide. Every dollar counts and will make a difference in Fire Protection at the airport and on the island!
